A water storage tank is useful for someone running a large farm, as collecting rainwater for watering crops will mean far less expense than having to pay for fresh water. However, it can be good for just about any homeowner to think of getting a water storage tank for their property, even if you choose smaller slimline tanks to save on space. Note a few advantages to having such a tank for your home, no matter the size of your property or the location in which you live.

Gardening and lawn care

A farmer will obviously need lots of water for his or her crops, so a rainwater tank for them is an obvious choice, while a homeowner with a small garden or lawn may not think much of the fresh water they use to maintain their property. However, using rainwater can mean reducing your home's water bill and your use of fresh water. This will mean less power used by your city to produce this fresh water, which then means less pollution from those water treatment facilities. If saving money on the cost of fresh water doesn't convince you to get a water tank for watering your lawn and garden, consider the benefits to the environment when you reduce your use of city-supplied water.

Water cut-off

If the city-supplied water in your home is cut off for any reason, including a natural disaster or a power outage at the plant, having a reservoir of water on hand can mean having water to drink and use for bathing until fresh water is restored. Don't underestimate this importance, as not having enough water for drinking and bathing can be damaging to your health, and not being able to flush the toilets in the home can also be very unsanitary. Keeping the water you need for just a few days of use can mean being safe during such outages.

Fires

If your property is prone to brushfires or lightning strikes, you may need a good supply of water very quickly. For a larger property, hoses may not reach the back end of the property where fires may be more likely to start. Having a large water storage tank on the property, along with a pump for it, can mean having the water you need to quickly address those fires and put them out before the spread and cause too much property damage.
